The Malaysia Geospatial Forum 2012, organized by the Geospatial Media and Communications Sdn Bhd is a reputable forum in the GIS faculty and one of its kind in Malaysia. PSI Incontrol Sdn Bhd has been an active participant by having a booth in the past years and present papers on various topics related to GIS technologies that PSI embarks on.
This year, the forum was held on the 6th to 7th March 2012 at the Holiday Inn, Melaka, with various themes. One of the theme “Technology : Digital Impetus to Economic Transformation” saw the participation of Nelson Philip Fernandes, (Assistant General Manager, SCADA & GIS) who presented a paper entitled “Building better Infrastructure with Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and GIS at the community level”. His paper, in essence, talked about the engagement of rural communities in implementing GIS rural communities in implementing GIS rural development projects. Also present to represent PSI Incontrol during the forum was Wan Syaiful Nizam bin Wan Md Azizan (Manager, GIS Project).
The audience was welcomed by Abdul Jamil Archad, Director, Department of Town & Country Planning, Melaka, who then elaborated upon the economic growth envisioned by the nation and role of geospatial technology in the process, in his opening speech.
Held for the first time in 2006 as Map Malaysia, the conference is a platform for the Malaysian geo-informatics community to realise, recognise, and reveal the stages of dissemination of geospatial information in the country. The forum was not just all serious and solemn; it ended with a spectacular Gala Dinner with a special appearance by Guest of Honor, YAB Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Chief Minister of Melaka.
Participation in these types of industry events, even more so having an employee to present in one of them, is a great milestone for PSI Incontrol’s geospatial business venture, and would contribute to greater exposure in the industry.
